What's in the name?
Kaimea is inspired by the Hawaiian words kai (sea) and mea (person). While not a traditional Hawaiian phrase, it loosely expresses the idea of a “sea person” — someone deeply connected to the ocean.
For founder Martijn, that connection runs deep. As a passionate prone paddler, surfer, and active member of his local Surf Life Saving club in the UK, the ocean has shaped much of who he is. Born under the zodiac sign Aquarius — known as Waterman in Dutch — he quite literally lives up to the name.
The name Kaimea also holds a personal tribute: it is an anagram of his twin sister’s name, Maaike. Hidden within it is a quiet reminder of shared roots, family, and the deep bond that connects them — just as the ocean connects us all.
Kaimea is more than a name. It’s a story of identity, connection, and a life lived in and by the sea.
